Spit
The objective of Spit is to be the first player to get rid of all the cards in your stockpile by playing them onto the spit piles in the center of the playing area.
Setup:
- Spit is typically played with two players. Each player should have their own standard deck of 52 playing cards.
- Sit across from your opponent, and designate a central area for the spit piles.
Gameplay:
- Each player takes a deck of cards and shuffles them thoroughly.
- Each player then divides their deck into two piles: a stockpile and a hand. The stockpile is placed face-down in front of the player, and the hand is held face-down.
- Both players simultaneously say “Spit!” and flip over the top card from their hand, placing it face-up in the center of the playing area between them. These are the spit piles.
- The game begins, and both players play simultaneously.
- Each player attempts to play cards from their stockpile onto the spit piles in ascending or descending order.
- Only the top card of the stockpile can be played, and it must be one rank higher or lower than the top card of a spit pile. For example, if there is a 5 on a spit pile, a player can play a 4 or a 6.
- If a player plays all the cards from their stockpile, they can start playing cards from their hand onto the spit piles.
- If a player cannot play any cards from their stockpile or hand, they shout “Spit!” and both players simultaneously take the top card from their hand and place it face-up on a spit pile.
- The game continues with both players playing cards as fast as they can onto the spit piles, always trying to match the top card or play consecutively ascending or descending cards.
- If both players are unable to play any cards from their stockpile or hand, they both shout “Spit!” and each simultaneously places the top three cards from their hand face-up onto three separate spit piles.
- As soon as a player gets rid of all the cards in their stockpile and hand, they shout “Spit!” to indicate that they have won the game.
Winning the Game:
- The player who successfully gets rid of all their cards first by playing them onto the spit piles is the winner of the round.
Tips:
- Stay focused and play as fast as you can to increase your chances of winning.
- Keep an eye on the cards played by your opponent to anticipate their moves.
- Try to create spaces in the spit piles to allow for more card plays.
- Develop quick reflexes to spot playable cards and react swiftly.
